Thunderbirds Set Attendance Mark at Half-Way Mark of Home Season

Winston-Salem, NC – Thunderbirds Set Attendance Mark at Half-Way Mark of Home Season.

What’s New

Despite a 1-2 record over the weekend against the Danville Dashers, the Thunderbirds would see over 6,000 people through the doors of the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Now, with an average of 2,214 per game and a total attendance of 33,218 through 15 home games, the Thunderbirds have broken last season’s total attendance mark. The highest attendance last season was set by the Danville Dashers, who through 28 home games had 31,169. In addition, during the 2015-2016 regular season the highest attendance total was 31,387, again set by Danville.

The overall record for league attendance was set during the 2012-2013 season by the Danbury Whalers with 51,484 over a 27-game stretch. For the Thunderbirds to break that record the team will need to average 1,522 tickets sold per game for the next 12 home games, a number that is 3 tickets shy of half-capacity for hockey at the Fairgrounds Annex.

Most notable from the weekend’s action was Saturday night’s game. 25 minutes prior to puck drop on January 20th, the organization announced a sell-out game. After conferring with the ticketing staff of the arena, the Thunderbirds would sell an additional 300 standing-room-only seats.

This is the 2nd time this season that the Thunderbirds have sold out the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex.
