After a 2-game series against the Watertown Wolves in the first round of the Federal Hockey League’s Commissioner’s Cup Playoffs that saw the Carolina Thunderbirds drop both games in overtime, the organization now looks ahead to the upcoming season.

The 2017-2018 regular season saw the return of professional hockey for the Triad for the first time in 10 years, as the Thunderbirds opened their regular season bringing in fans from across the region. Throughout the 30 home-games during the regular season, the Thunderbirds would go on to break the FHL’s single season attendance record, finishing up the regular season campaign with 66,204 attendees, shattering the old record by 14,720. The T-Birds would also average 2,207 fans per game, also a league record.

Carolina would finish the regular season in 3rd place, with 25 wins, 24 losses, 5 overtime wins and 2 overtimes losses, to go alongside 87 regular season points and a .518 winning percentage. Both playoff games the Thunderbirds would play would end in overtime, with the deciding game on Saturday, April 14th going down as the longest game in FHL history after going into double overtime.

The schedule for the 2018-2019 regular season is expected to be announced sometime in the late portion of the summer months, likely in July or August.
