THUNDERBIRDS ADD TRIO TO TRYOUT CAMP

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Carolina Thunderbirds are pleased to announce the signing of three players to Player Tryout Agreements. The first of the three is Jan Salak, a forward from the Czech Republic. The 23-year-old Salak stands at 6’3” and weighs in at 223 pounds. Heading into his 3rd year in the Federal Hockey League, Salak played for the Brewster Bulldogs in the 2015-2016 seaon, and spent last season with the Berlin River Drivers, playing for Thunderbirds coach Andre Niec. In 41 games during the 2016-2017 season, Salak scored 10 goals and had 26 assists, along with 16 penalty minutes and a plus 7 rating.

A countryman of Salak and former River Driver has also signed a tryout agreement with the Thunderbirds. David Brancik, a defenseman also from the Czech Republic, stands at 6’ 2” and weighs 205 pounds. Brancik, age 22, played for the River Drivers over the last 2 seasons, and in 55 games last season notched 9 goals, 34 assists, 33 penalty minutes, and a plus 25 rating. Both Salak and Brancik were selected by the Thunderbirds during the dispersal draft because of Berlin ceasing operations.

The third player signed is a local for the Thunderbirds. Ethan Loo, age 25, hails from Raleigh North Carolina. The 5’10”, 165-pound goaltender, most recently played for the University of Vermont, and last season posted a 3.18 Goals Against Average and a .903 save percentage over 10 games played.

The Thunderbirds will be announcing more player signings during the coming weeks as more players are signed to PTO Agreements.
