Three players score twice in Carolina win

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Carolina Thunderbirds, proud members of the Federal Prospects Hockey League and 2019 Commissioner’s Cup champions, stung the Battle Creek Rumble Bees 8-2 on Saturday at the Annex.

“I’m happy it’s over,” said head coach Andre Niec, “we get another win and that’s important, but we still have place to develop.”

The Rumble Bees opened the scoring when Toni Lampo notched his second goal of the weekend just 4:10 into the game.

The Thunderbirds would fight back to tie and take the lead with goals scored less than a minute a part from Petr Panacek and Michael Bunn. Panacek had seven points on Friday vs. Battle Creek and would earn three tonight.

“I’m happy for him,” said Niec.

The second period saw Carolina explode for four goals from Panacek and Bunn again as well as Everett Thompson and Jan Salak.

Battle Creek would sneak another by Frankie McClendon in the third when Maxim Noskov earned his first goal of the season. The Thunderbirds saw Thompson and George Holt score in the third.

The Thunderbirds improve to 12-1-0-0 on the season while Battle Creek falls to 0-15-0-0.

The two teams will play each other twice next weekend in Battle Creek.

“We’re gonna adjust a little,” said Niec, “but we want to make sure our guys are playing hard because we are going to push them.”
