Off Season Shenanigans

Winston Salem, NC - Off Season Shenanigans - So what happens during the off season?

Many questions arise as the Hockey season comes to an end. Where do the players go? Are they coming back next season? Does the hockey office close? These are great questions to ask. We love how our fans and how much they care about these players. We have all become a Thunderbird family.

During the off season there are lots of things that happen player wise and front office. Although the 2017-2018 season may be over; the hard work doesn’t end. The front office staff jumps right in to prep for the 2018-2019 season. This includes many aspects from sales and marketing to community involvement. Just because the players have left for the summer doesn’t mean we stop supporting our community. You can see our mascots Winston and Salem visiting many local places all over the Triad and other parts of North Carolina. Our front office staff keeps busy in the off season to ensure a great Hockey season for our players and the fans.

As for the players during the off season, many head back home to see their families. Many players haven’t seen their families since they left for the season in October 2017. Many take on summer jobs and focus on spending time with their families. Others spend their time traveling and exploring. No matter what during the off season the players always find time for off season training. It’s important to our players to focus on training for the season to come. They all have their own methods of training, but the mix it in with the fun of the summer off.

When it comes to the question “Will this player be back next year?” we only know so much. A lot can happen over six months. Some players may choose different life paths and focus on their families or perhaps getting into the career field in which their college degrees are in. The Federal Hockey League has many wonderful athletes, but the main goal for our players is to move up within the sport of Hockey to make it to the NHL. Players may get called up for other higher leagues. We may be sad to see them leave; but our goal is to see them moving up to fulfill their dreams within the sport of Hockey.

We appreciate all our fan support from this past season and can’t wait for the 2018-2019 season to start. We’re blessed to have fans that care about our players as much as we do. There’s a lot of work to get done in the meantime so look out for Thunderbird news on our website and on our social media accounts.
