Miles for Michael Charity Walk scheduled for May 23

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Carolina Thunderbirds, proud members of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, are proud to reveal a new charity event for forward Michael Bunn’s road to recovery.

The “Miles for Michael” charity walk, will take place on Saturday, May 23 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Anyone who would like is welcome to participate .

“This was an idea I had because I had started walking during the quarantine,” said public address voice of the Thunderbirds Steve Marino, “and I just thought this would be a cool thing we could do for Bunn and try to raise some money for his family.”

All participants will choose their own starting point and a distance (either 1.1 miles, 5.5 miles, or 11 miles) before they begin walking. On May 23, all participants should complete their walk.

The Thunderbirds are asking all walkers to wear their Thunderbirds gear, the “Bunn 11” t-shirt, something black and red, or anything you can wear to show your support for Michael during his journey to recovery.

Take pictures and tag @carolinatbirds on Instagram and Twitter or share photos on facebook tagging the Carolina Thunderbirds page using #FlockTogether and #MilesforMichael.

Anyone who would like to pledge to support a walker or simply donate directly to Michael and his family may do so via this link to our online pledge form.

The pledge form will be available until Friday, May 22. All pledges and donations will be processed and charged on Monday, May 25.

When walking, please be sure to follow all guidelines for appropriate social distancing and do not walk in groups of more than 10.

The Thunderbirds have also partnered with the Columbus River Dragons for two charity auction items available on the River Dragons LiveSource page now. One item is a Michael Bunn fusion jersey and the other is a customizable OGIO backpack.

From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely thank you for your support of Michael while he fights to recover.
