Carolina lands the big one, sign Buttitta

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Carolina Thunderbirds, proud members of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, have signed forward Jon Buttitta to a PTO.

Buttitta was at one point the leading scorer in the FPHL before being loaned from Mentor to Quad City of the SPHL. Buttita scored 18 goals and logged 20 assists for Mentor and averaged 1.9 points per game while an Ice Breaker.

In Quad City, Buttitta played 15 games scoring six points (3g, 3a). He is a native of Middleburg Heights, Ohio who played college hockey at Kent State University. Buttitta logged 70 points his senior season for the Golden Flashes and was an alternate captain his junior year.

Buttitta is former teammates with current Thunderbird George Holt, having both played a season with the NA3HL's Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks.

The Thunderbirds are planning to add Mike Solarte from Spectrum News to a one-game celebrity contract on Friday, Feb. 21. Solarte played one game under a celebrity contract last season as well.

There is no indication as of right now as to what numbers these additions will wear.

Carolina plays Port Huron this weekend on Friday at 7:35 p.m. and on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Tickets are still available in limited quantities.
