Winston-Salem, NC

For Immediate Release:

The Carolina Thunderbirds, proud members of the Federal Prospects Hockey League, have traded Brendan and Gregory Hussey to the Baton Rouge Zydeco in exchange for goaltender Boris Babik and future considerations, the team announced today.

Babik, a native of Slovakia, was selected by Baton Rouge in June's expansion draft. He returns to the Thunderbirds after playing in 26 regular season games a year ago. The 26-year-old posted a 16-6 record with a .911 save percentage and a 3.18 goals against average.

Prior to joining the Thunderbirds last season, Babik had spent his whole career playing in Europe. The netminder played juniors and professional in his homeland of Slovakia before spending the 2019-20 season in Sweden. Following a return to Slovakia in 2020-21, Babik played in 23 games in 2021-22 for Istanbul Buyuksehir SK in Turkey.

The Thunderbirds begin their season on Friday, October 27th, at 7:30 p.m. against the Danbury Hat Tricks in Danbury, Connecticut. Fans can watch the game live on YouTube on ThunderbirdsTV.
