Rookie Reflection with #5 Seth Gustin

Winston-Salem, NC – Rookie Reflection with #5 Seth Gustin

If you're feeling the heat lately imagine how our defenseman, #5 Seth Gustin, is feeling during his summer home in Arizona! However, it’s not all bad for the red head because today is his 25th birthday!

On Monday we were able to FaceTime Gustin and ask him about the season as well as ask him some fun questions to help the fans get to know him better.

After graduating from Niagara University, he had hopes of signing for a professional hockey club. After coming to training camp as a free agent Gustin showed that demanding work and passion pays off. When asked what his proudest moment was of the season; He looks back to when Andre called him into his office after training camp and offered him a contract he knew all his work and his family’s sacrifice paid off.

Seth played great for the Thunderbirds this past season showing his defense skills on the ice. Always having his teammate’s back and helping the Thunderbirds get out of some touch situations in front of the goal.

Over the course of the season Gustin says he learned how truly lucky he was to be able to play pro hockey in Winston-Salem. He became close friends with his teammates and loved the atmosphere the fans brought to the Annex. He has grown to enjoy all that Winston Salem has to offer. With his red hair and contiguous smile Seth became a fan favorite.

One memory Seth kept with him from last season was scoring his first professional goal in front of his mother, sister, and grandmother. It was a great night to be a part of watching someone score their first professional goal. Especially someone with the heart and passion for the sport of Hockey like Seth.

As for the upcoming season he will continue his pre-game rituals of doing yoga after the morning skates and getting a cup of Starbucks coffee, cold brew to be exact. However, one thing you won’t catch him doing before the game is taking a nap! Hopefully these pre-game rituals will lead him to his personal goal of contributing to the team and his line every night and ultimately winning the championship. He says it was nice to make the playoffs but winning the championship is the real end goal.

Besides celebrating his birthday, Seth Gustin’s summer plans include enjoying time with his family and of course training for the 2018-2019 season. However, if you're wondering what he’s doing today to celebrate the big two-five, he will be keeping it simple by going to dinner with his friends and family. He says he’s not a fan of when people go out of the way or make a big deal, so he is looking forward to a nice dinner with the people he is closest to. While we were talking about his birthday we took the opportunity to find out what his favorite birthday memory was; and he said it would have to be when his parents would buy a dozen original glazed donuts from Krispy Kreme and stack them. This is due to the fact he hates cake!

Make sure you make this birthday memorable by wishing him happy birthday on our social media!

Quick Q&A with Seth:

Q: What is your guilty pleasure?

A: I really enjoy reading. I also love watching Netflix or a good rom-com!

Q: Would you rather spend the day inside or outside?

A: Outside.

Q: If you weren't playing hockey what would you be doing?

A: I would want to be a writer or the president of the United States.

Q: Would you rather stay in or go out for a date?

A: I’m a big homebody so I would rather stay in and have dinner then watch a movie or two.

Q: Who would you want a front row seat to see in concert?

A: Wow this is a tough one. If I could see anyone in the world it would be A$AP Rocky but John Mayer is my man crush!

Q: Would you rather have a two-bedroom apartment in a big city of your choosing or a mansion in the country side in the state where you currently live?

A: I think I’m going to take the mansion in Arizona, so all my friends could visit me.

It was a great season for all us Thunderbird fans getting to know Seth Gustin and watching him play. We are truly lucky to have this kindhearted and funny young man as a Carolina Thunderbird!
