Winston-Salem, NC- Thunderbirds Sign Former NHL, AHL Player Steve MacIntyre to Contract.

The Thunderbirds are proud to announce the signing of Steve MacIntyre to a contract ahead of Friday night’s action. MacIntyre, a veteran of all levels of professional hockey, will suit up for the Thunderbirds starting this weekend. The Brock, Saskatchewan native stands at 6’7” and 249 pounds, and started his career with 4 full seasons in the Western Hockey League.

Throughout his professional career MacIntyre has played 111 games in the now-defunct United Hockey League, 189 games in the East Coast Hockey League, 208 games in the American Hockey League, and 91 games in the National Hockey League.

In his NHL career MacIntyre would play for the Edmonton Oilers, the Florida Panthers, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. MacIntyre’s most recent stops have been with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League and the Utah Grizzlies in the East Coast Hockey League during the 2014-2015 season.

Currently a resident of Kernersville, NC, MacIntyre lives with his Fiancée Rebecca, his son Kalyme and daughter Klaira, aged 12 and 9.

Carolina will skate against the Danville Dashers on Friday and Saturday January 19th and 20th. Friday’s game will start at 7:35 pm, with the doors of the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds Annex opening at 6:35 pm. Saturday’s game is Veterans Appreciation Night, and the puck will drop at 6:05 pm. The Thunderbirds will be wearing specialty jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit local charity, and anyone with an valid military ID can get 4 tickets for $20 at the box office.
